KYIV (QHA) -

Social benefits payment to some 600 thousand of internally displaced persons (IDPs) has been suspended in Ukraine for the time being, UN Special Rapporteur on Internally Displaced Persons Chaloka Beyani said at a briefing in Kyiv on September 9, according to a QHA correspondent.

“One of the main problems, which play a role in the issue of social and material security of IDPs, is the connection of pension payment and social assistance with registration - a system that is based on the verification of IDPs residence. This issue shouldn’t be linked to the issue of registration,” said Beyani.

He also noted that the registration system, along with the suspension of welfare payments, is leading to further displacement and spontaneous return of the displaced persons to unsafe places.
