Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expressed protest in connection with the decision of the Moscow City Court to uphold the decision of the Moscow Lefortovo District Court of 01.25.2017, to extend up to 04.30.2017 the detention term of Roman Sushchenko who was illegally detained in Russia on false charges, according to the Ministry’s press-service.
Today, February14, lawyers of Sushchenko have once again received a refusal to re-submission of a motion to change the measure of restraint from custody to house arrest.
Ukrainian Foreign Ministry believes that "another refusal confirms biased Russian judiciary and political motivation in the proceedings against Sushchenko".
Correspondent of Ukrainian National Information Agency "Ukrinform" in France Roman Sushchenko was illegally detained on September 30 in Moscow, where he arrived on personal business. In the evening on October 2, Russian media reported that Sushchenko was kept in custody in Moscow "Lefortovo" prison on charges of espionage. The FSB claims that Sushchenko is a member of the Chief of the Defense Intelligence of the Ukraine.
Earlier QHA reported that the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe adopted a Resolution demanding the Russian Federation to release Ukrainian journalists Nikolai Semena and Roman Sushchenko, as well as director Oleg Sentsov.
