Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan joined the opening ceremony of the American cultural and religious center in Maryland (USA). Following his speech, the Turkish Minister of Religious Affairs Mehmet Germez cut the ribbon to officially mark the opening of the mosque.
Many visitors, including representatives of different faiths and nations, attended the event.
Erdogan with other dignitaries walked round the mosque and other facilities of the center.
The only double-minaret mosque in America is built in the Ottoman empire style of architecture. The temple and the adjoining yard can host three thousand worshipers at the same time.
The center has an area of approximately 60,000-square-meters. There are also a 300-square-meter Islamic Arts Museum below the mosque as well as a library, conference hall, reception, exhibition and assembly halls.
Moreover, the Islamic Research Center within the building will provide a consultancy service for undergraduate and graduate students coming from Turkey to the US.
