CHERKASY (QHA) -

The Turkish Development and Cooperation Agency (TIKA) within the Council of Ministers of the Turkey Republic financed the repair of the kitchen and the purchase of medical equipment for the rehabilitation department of the Cherkasy Regional Council Geriatric Boarding House (nursing home for the elderly). The Turkish government has allocated an amount equivalent to about 1.5 million UAH for this purpose.

Over the past two years TIKA has carried out projects worth more than 10 million UAH in the Cherkasy region. In particular, the agency purchased equipment and repaired various institutions supporting infirm and sick persons, social assistance centers.

The coordinator of the TIKA program in Ukraine Haji Bayram Bolat took part in the solemn opening ceremony of the renovated rehabilitation department of the Geriatric Boarding House.

“The social sphere is very important for TIKA, that is why we support geriatric boarding houses. We feel respect for those who are older as the future exists due to their efforts," Mr. Bolat said.

The cooperation between local authorities and the agency will not end with the repair of the rehabilitation center, the Head of the Cherkasy Regional State Administration Yury Tkachenko reported. In the near future, a medical and labor workshop in the Budishan psychoneurological boarding school is to be created with the assistance of TIKA.

In total, in 2016 the Turkish Development and Cooperation Agency carried out about 40 projects throughout Ukraine, primarily aimed at social protection, development of health care and education .
