Ex-Chief of the Main Office of the National Police in Vinnitsa region Anton Shevtsov was detained while trying to cross the Ukrainian border, reads a statement published on the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) website.
“Shevtsov was trying to get to Belarus through Senkivka checkpoint in Chernihiv region and then escape to Russia as secret service officers seized Minsk-Moscow air ticket from Shevtsov,” the SSU reports.
Now Shevtsov is delivered to Main Office of the SSU in Vinnytsia region. The priority investigation is underway.
As previously reported, the criminal proceedings in respect of Shevtsov were opened under Part 1 of Article 111 (high treason) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
In late February, users of the social media published a photo of Shevtsov with Nikolai Valuev, Russian boxer and deputy, against the background of a building with hoisted Russian flag, as well as a photo of his son against the backdrop of Russian military equipment in Crimea. On March 4, the National Police Administration reported on conducting an official investigation against Anton Shevtsov.
