Reference. On April 26, 1986, an explosion of the fourth reactor occurred at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, which led to numerous casualties among emergency workers.

Under the decree by President of Ukraine issued in 2006, December 14 was set as the Day of honoring liquidators of the Chernobyl accident. The construction of the sarcophagus over the destroyed reactor was completed on that this year.
