KYIV (QHA) - The situation in the urban village of Vradiivka, Mykolaiv raion, where the villagers indignant with the rape stormed the militia raion, was stabilized.
Interior Minister of Ukraine Vitalii Zakharchenko told a press conference about this, a Ukrinform correspondent reported.
“The taken measures allowed stabilizing the situation in Vradiivka,” the Minister said.
According to him, “people gave credit to law-enforcers” and now over 80 villagers approached the police with their problems.
The Minister promised that a thorough examination will be organized on every application, to which specialists from other regions will be attracted.
“All persons involved in concealment of crimes will be brought to criminal responsibility, and following completion of the agency check other tough decisions will be taken,” Zakharchenko said.
Currently, the whole number of chief officers is on the shelf, and some persons were released, he specified.
The Interior Minister also said that during July-August, an extraordinary certification of Vradiivka police personnel will be held and “expediency of the service of each employee” will be decided.
As reported by the agency, over a night of July 1-2, Vradiivka residents, indignant with raping of their fellow villager with participation of law-enforcers, stormed the police district department. They broke the gate, threw stones and broke the windows in the administrative building.
A criminal proceeding was instituted on those facts based on Part 4, Article 296 (hooliganism committed by a group of persons) and Part I, Article 194 (intentional destruction or damage of property) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
On June 26, three men raped and gave a beating to 29-year resident of the urban village of Vradiivka Iryna Krashkova. The woman said that two police workers and a local ranger committed this. All attackers were detained.
On July 2, Interior Minister Vitalii Zakharchenko dismissed from office the chief of the Interior Ministry Main Department in Mykolaiv raion and chiefof the Vradiivka raion militia department.
In addition, the district public prosecutor was also dismissed.
President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych took investigation into the case under his personal control.
