The main Christmas tree mounted on the central square of Simferopol was surrounded by an iron fence. Moreover, all willing to approach it have to pass through an archway metal detector, Eskander Bariev, coordinator of the Committee for the Protection of Crimean Tatars’ Rights, wrote on his Facebook page.

“I don’t remember that children in Simferopol have ever had to pass through metal detectors to approach a Christmas tree. Judging by these photos, ‘green men’ (Russian soldiers) near the green Christmas tree play the role of Grandfather Frost and Snow Maiden,” wrote Bariev.
