Self-defense forces will ‘keep order’ at May 18 rally

Crimean ‘self-defense forces’ will ‘keep order’ during all-Crimean mourning meeting, dedicated to 70th anniversary of Crimean Tatar deportation.

Crimean acting Premier Sergey Aksyonov confirmed the information on May 14 in Simferopol.

“Self-defense forces are not enemies to Crimean Tatars. They never provoke the situation, they are keeping public order. And they do will keep the order whether Mejlis leaders like it or do not”.

The statement comes days after Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people appealed to Crimean authorities, urging that ‘self-defense forces’ would not be present at May 18 meeting.

This year Crimea marks 70th anniversary of deportation of 1944. Number of traditional mourning events to be held, among them requiem-action ‘light a fire in your heart’ May 17 and all-Crimean mourning rally May 18.
