The Ministry of Islamic Affairs of Saudi Arabia has launched a campaign, which will reveal imams and muezzins violating the regulations of the Ministry, reports Islam today. Activities of the campaign are directed primarily against imams and muezzins who transmitt their own roles and responsibilities to foreigners. According to Saudi law, only residents of Saudi Arabia have the right to take the posts of muezzins and imams. Despite the ban, several cases of transfer functions to foreigners by local employees of mosques have been seen recently. It became known that the Arabian Ministry of Islamic Affairs is planning to create a local system to track and evaluate the performance of imams and muezzins of mosques of the country in order to identify foreigners among them, and immediately withhold illegals.
