Russian border guards inexplicably detained Crimean lawyers Emil Kurbedinov and Edem Semedlyaev on the border with Crimea.
According to Kurbedinov’s post on Facebook, they were released after an hour of questioning. However, Russian border guards did not explain the reasons for the detention.
“After an hour of detention by border guards for unknown reasons and questioning, on the border with Crimea (Armyansk), we finally head for Kyiv to fly to Warsaw to attend the OSCE conference,” Kurbedinov writes.
The lawyers are going to participate in the Human Dimension Implementation Meeting (HDIM) of OSCE participating States held on September 19 – 30, 2016.
“We hope that we will be able to highlight problems at the specially created forum dedicated to the problem of violating rights of the Crimean Tatars and Crimean Muslims,” Kurbedinov posted.
It should be noted that at the meeting in Warsaw, the Ukrainian delegation has focused attention on the need for constant monitoring - by the OSCE institutions, the UN and other international organizations - of the situation on ensuring the rights of Ukrainian citizens in the occupied territories of Crimea and Donbas.
Kurbedinov is a lawyer of the Deputy Chairman of the Crimean Tatar Mejlis Ilmi Umerov.
