December 31, dozens of activists gathered in front of the Russian Embassy in the United States of America demanding the release of the Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsov arrested by the occupiers in Crimea, according to the information provided on the Facebook page “Free Oleg Sentsov”.

Moreover, the activists supported the Crimean Tatars, the Deputy Chairmen of the Mejlis Ahtem Chiygoz and Ilmi Umerov.

December 15, lawyer Dmitry Dinze visited Oleg Sentsov in the Russian colony in the city of Kirov-Chepetsk. The film director told the lawyer that he continues to work hard in custody and   had already written five scripts and a story.

In May 2014, four local pro-Ukrainian activists were arrested in the occupied Simferopol:  Gennadiy Afanasiev, Aleksei Chirniy, Aleksander Kolchenko and filmmaker Oleg Sentsov. In August 2015, Russian court found them guilty of planning terrorist attacks in the Crimea and the arson of the two parties’ offices in Simferopol.

Afanasiev and Chirniy agreed to cooperate with the investigation and received seven years in prison. Sentsov was sentenced to 20 years and Kolchenko - to 10 years in prison.
