“The public events will be held near Chonhar in Henichesk district, the Ukrainian territory in the nearest proximity of the border with the occupied Crimea, on Remembrance Day for the Victims of the Deportation of Crimean Tatars.

On May 18, 1944, the Soviet authorities began mass deportation of the Crimean Tatars from Crimea, accusing them of collaborating with the Nazis. As a result, it has become one of the most rapidly conducted deportations in history. In just a few months, the Soviet authorities destroyed 46% of the Crimean Tatar people.
