SIMFEROPOL / AQMESCIT (QHA) -

The Kremlin-controlled Simferopol district court denied the defence of the Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Ilmi Umerov to admit the linguistic expertise of the Bureau of Linguistic Expertise of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine to the case materials, according to Ayshe Umerova.

“The prosecutor opposed the admission. The reason was the alleged lack of signatures of two experts (although they were involved only as consultants, and the papers were signed by the head of the enterprise which carried out the expertise), and they allegedly were not explained the rights and responsibilities. From myself I would note that this is the answer of the prosecutors to almost any of our motions.”

She also noted that after this the court retired to the deliberation room.

After returning the judge, despite the end of the working day, decided to continue the meeting and called expert Ivanova in the court room, Ayshe Umerova commented.

“The judge raises the question of how an expert will answer one of the questions she considered in the examination, now, after in previous meetings it was found out that Umerov did not utter some of the words that appear in the charge. This was confirmed by the interpreter when watching the video in the courtroom (the word "must", for which Umerov is judged, is simply absent in the original speech). Ivanova can not explain, she can provide any conclusions only after additional instructions.”

Umerova further reported that Mark Feigin had applied for a re-examination, but insisted on taking into account the already attached alternative translation of Professor Kerimov and the Moscow review. Another obligatory condition called was conducting a second examination from the original speech, ie, from the Crimean Tatar language.

As a result, the "court" asked to submit this petition in writing and postponed its consideration until Friday, September 8, 14.00.

Earlier QHA reported that in the case of Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Ilmi Umerov the prosecutor was replaced. A new one was Semenchuk, who had not previously been declared in the group of prosecutors on the case. At the same time, according to Umerov's defense, the newly-minted prosecutor somehow managed to familiarize with three volumes of the criminal case in just one day.

Reference: May 12, 2016, the FSB in the Crimea initiated a criminal case against the Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis Ilmi Umerov under art. 280.1 for allegedly calling to actions that threaten the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation on the air of the ATR.
