MINSK (QHA) -
The leader of the Belarusian National Congress Mikola Statkevich initiated a protest action against the joint Russian-Belarusian military exercises "West-2017".

At the end of the event, timed to the Day of Belarusian Military Glory, a resolution was drawn up, according to which the protesters opposed the involvement of Belarus in the military confrontation of Russia with Ukraine and the NATO bloc.
“We support the position of the Constitution on Belarus' striving for neutrality and do not want the presence of foreign troops on our land. We regard the military exercises "West-2017" as a threat to the sovereignty of our country," reads the statement.

Reference: September 14-20, exercises "West-2017" are to be held in the territory of Russia and Belarus. Up to 13,000 servicemen will be involved in military maneuvers.

According to the Head of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Viktor Muzhenko, the Russian-Belarusian exercises are an attempt to put pressure not only on Ukraine, but also on NATO members, primarily the Baltic countries and Poland.
