A citizen of Ukraine, transferred from the Crimea to Russia, passed away in prison since he was not provided medical care, according to Gromadske radіo.
His lawyer Roman Martynovsky said that the prisoner suffered from hepatitis and tuberculosis. After being transferred from Crimea to the Russian colony he had been denied medical services for two years.
We have managed on behalf of the deceased to address the European Court of Human Rights asking to take urgent measures. The Court, in the end, claimed for the necessary information from the Russian government. Unfortunately, the Russian authorities have not taken any measures to provide immediate treatment and the prisoner died on September 8, Martynovsky said.
According to him, September 9 the prisoners in the colony protested against the intolerable conditions of serving the sentence. Roman Martynovsky reports that applications to transport the body of the deceased to Ukraine have been submitted to the competent authorities of Ukraine. The deceased is not named since his relatives have not given permission to do it yet.
