A report on the appointment of a vicar bishop of the Diocese of Simferopol prepared by Metropolitan of Simferopol and Crimea Lazar was considered at the meeting of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church chaired by Metropolitan of Kiev and All Ukraine Onuphrius and held in the Holy Dormition Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. 

Archimandrite Kallinik (Chernyshov), a cleric of the Diocese of Simferopol, was appointed as Bishop Bakhchisaray by the decision of the Synod, says a statement published on the website of the Synodal Information and Education Department of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP).

According to Russian Live Journal blog written by Andrei Kuraev, Archdeacon of the Russian Orthodox Church, Kallinik (Chernyshov) actively supported the annexation of Crimea by Russia.

The following information about Archimandrite Kallinik was published on the Ukrainian website identifying the accomplices of occupants: “He is a separatists and accomplice of invaders. He took an active part in the annexation of Crimea, promoted anti-Ukrainian propaganda and located a cache of weapons for the ‘defense of Crimea’ in the Temple of the Holy Prophet John the Baptist in the village of Uyutnoye, being its abbot. He was awarded the Medal ‘For the defense of Crimea’ by the occupation administration.

According to Clement (Vecheria), Head of the Synodal Information and Education Department of the UOC (MP), Kallinik will soon arrive to Kyiv for ordination to be held in Kiev-Pechersk Lavra.

“The ordination of Archimandrite Kallinik, who has been serving in the Crimean Diocese (Simferopol) for many years, will be held here very soon (in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. - Ed.)” he said.
