May 19, the occupation authorities accused Umerov of separatist statements during his speech at the ATR TV Channel when the Mejlis Deputy Chairman said "it is necessary to force Russia to pull back from Crimea and Donbas."
Following that, the FSB in the Crimea has launched a criminal case against Umerov "on suspicion of incitement to violation of territorial integrity of the Russian Federation."
On July 14, he filed an appeal against the decision to institute criminal proceedings against him to the Kiev District Court of Simferopol. Umerov also sent to a FSB investigator a disclaimer to voluntarily undergo outpatient forensic psychiatric examination, describing it as an attempt to damage his reputation, as well as discredit and humiliate him.
Ilmi Umerov started feeling sick during a trial. He was hospitalized with heart attack risk.
On August 18, the FSB illegally transferred the Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People Ilmi Umerov from the hospital to a psychiatric clinic.
