NEW YORK (QHA) -

May 26, in Times Square, New York, a performance was held in support of the  prisoner of Kremlin Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov who had started a hunger strike.  The leader of the Crimean Tatar people Mustafa Dzhemilev took part in the action, according to the information on the page of MBH Media on Twitter.

“In New York in Times Square a performance is taking place in support of the Ukrainian film director Oleg Sentsov. Mustafa Dzhemilev took part in the action," reads the message.


Earlier, European cultural figures appealed to German Chancellor Angela Merkel calling to influence the Russian leadership to release Sentsov.

QHA reported that Oleg Sentsov started the hunger strike on May 14, demanding the Russian authorities to release 64 Ukrainian political prisoners. Today he is hungry for the 15th day.

Lawyer Dmitry Dinze at a press briefing stated that Sentsov would starve to the end.
