The OSCE meeting in Warsaw began on September 19. A side-event will be held within its framework to illuminate the problem of persecution of the indigenous people in Crimea, the Crimean Tatars.
The conference will last until September 30. Guests of the OSCE Human Dimension Meeting will be told about the violation of the rights of indigenous people of Crimea.
The side event "Discrimination against indigenous peoples in today's Russian-Ukrainian military conflict" was organized by the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people and the Crimean Tatar Resource Center. It will be attended by the members of the Crimean Tatar Mejlis Eskender Bariev and Gayana Yuksel, a representative of the Crimean Tatar fraternities Elvin Kadyrov, and a representative of the Congress of the Crimean Tatar people in Poland Nedim Useinov. The event takes place on September 27 at 18:00.
The UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples establishes the right of indigenous people for representative bodies, media, and religious freedom. Currently these rights of the Crimean Tatars are violated in Crimea; there is no freedom of speech, freedom of peaceful assembly or protest. The representative body of the Crimean Tatar Mejlis is persecuted and illegally recognized in Russia as an extremist organization. That is particularly concerning. The appeal hearing to consolidate the first instance court's decision is scheduled for September 29, in the Russian Supreme Court.
The International community at the OSCE platform will be once again informed about the real state of human rights in the occupied Crimea.
