The OSCE called on terrorists in Donbas to withdraw heavy weapons before the celebration of Victory Day on May 9, Head of the OSCE SMM Alexander Hug reports, as cited by RB Ukraine.
He reminded that the presence of heavy weapons is a violation of the Minsk agreements.
“The presence of heavy weapons in the middle of a big city is a violation of the Minsk agreements and a danger to the civilian population. Now there is an opportunity to meet obligations and withdraw weapons,” Hug said.
He noted that over the past week, there was a reduction of violence on both sides, which indicates that the parties can control themselves.
“Shelling in the village of Olenivka reminds that the parties need to withdraw weapons from the demarcation zone,” Hug added.
The Head of the OSCE SMM also said that heavy weapons are located in the village of Izvaryne, However, the representatives of the OSCE are unable to access the territory due to resistance of militants.
“I don’t want to talk about the origin of the weapons, but their numbers are fixed in our reports,” hinted Hug.
The OSCE wants to increase the number of observers in Donbas, and expand their geographic location.
