In 2016, the Crimea Railway announced the reconstruction of the road infrastructure until 2020. The enterprise intends to repair about 400 kilometers of railroads, the New Day publication reported.
This year Crimea Railway has concluded several contracts for the supply of rails with FSUE Spectr, a subordinate to the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation. One of the major contracts for the supply of rails of 100 meters and a total weight of 3.9 thousand tons was valued at 289 million rubles. However, especially for Crimea, the price was doubled, charging additional 75% of the deal. So, the structure of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation purchased rails from Russian Railways for 166 million rubles, arguing that the price was almost doubled due to logistics costs:
“Delivery includes ferry crossing, use of special trains, hired service brigades,” reads the publication of the FSUE Spectr representative.
For instance, in 2016, the cost of the Spectr contract with Crimea Railway was 216.6 million Rubles for 2 thousand 730 tons, and then the rails were purchased from the same supplier - the branch of Russian Railways Roszheldorsnab.
In Russia, 100-meter rails are produced by only two plants, Evraz and Mechel. Both supply products to Russian Railways, with no concern for the areas of their further use. The Russian railway does not cooperate directly with the Crimean Railway. And following the occupation, the Crimean Railway itself, like the Federal State Unitary Enterprise Spectr, was included in the structure of Roszheldor, subordinate to the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation.
