KYIV (QHA) -

September 1, Ukrainian Muslims mark the beginning and the first day of the holiday of Eid al-Adha. About 1,500 Muslims gathered in the premises of the Islamic Cultural Center to hold the holiday prayer.

Before the prayer, a sermon on the history of the holiday was delivered. Then the Muslims performed namaz, after which the children were presented with gifts.

During the whole day, festive events will be held on the territory of the Cultural Center. In particular, a fair will be organized for women, where it will be possible to purchase Muslim women's clothing, as well as make a painting of henna. For men, a sports program has been prepared.

“Every year the number of Muslims in Ukraine is growing, and I see two reasons for this - the first is the revival of religious traditions. More and more new families, who could not freely profess their religion during the USSR, are getting back to their roots, to their traditions. And the second reason is that there are many Muslims among the internally displaced persons who moved to the Kyiv region from the Crimea and the Donbas, and they make up a significant part of those people who came today to pray,” said Said Ismagilov, the Head of the Spiritual Board of Muslims of Ukraine.

Eid al-Adha is an Islamic holiday ending pilgrimage to the shrines of Islam, celebrated 70 days after the holiday Eid al-Fitr.
