STOCKHOLM (QHA) -

Anna Lindh Prize, the Ukraine’s MP Svitlana Zalishchuk received in Stockholm, will be handed over to Ilmi Umerov’s family. Svitlana Zalishchuk noted that she received this prize, which is awarded for the active defense of human rights, for protection of LGBT rights in Ukraine.

I decided to dedicate my award to the Crimean Tatars, who continue fighting for the right to live on their land, and in particular to Ilmi Umerov. The award provides for a small monetary reward, 20,000 Swedish crowns - that is around 1800 euros. I want to hand it over to Ilmi Umerov’s family. For me it was also an opportunity to remind the Swedish government of the important task - to keep an issue of the annexation of the Crimea on the international agenda, MP Svitlana Zalishchuk wrote on Facebook.

According to the MP, there are tens of thousands of people in Ukraine who deserve this award more than she did.
