The monument to Taras Shevchenko has been unveiled in the Bulgarian city of Sofia. The ceremony was attended by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and the Head of the Republic of Bulgaria Rosen Plevneliev, reported the Presidential press service.
- Shevchenko’s words unite the Ukrainian nation all over the world, as well are an inexhaustible source of our energy, our national idea, said Ukraine’s President.
Poroshenko also expressed gratitude to the President of Bulgaria and the Municipality of Sofia for the contribution to the implementation of this project, reported the press-service.
This monument has been put up not far from the monument to the Bulgarian national hero, poet and revolutionary Hristo Botev.
- It is no coincidence, as the genius of Taras Shevchenko, the genius of Kobzar has inspired a large number of revolutionary poets, including the representatives of the Bulgarian Revival. Two prominent figures in the history of our friendly countries, Shevchenko and Botev, were building the spiritual temple. The latter served as a source of faith and hope for millions of Ukrainians and Bulgarians who have won their freedom and independence that are above all for both nations, said President Poroshenko.
The monument to Taras Shevchenko was put up back in 2009, but the official unveiling ceremony was held yesterday. The monument was designed by a Kyiv sculptor Igor Grechanik.
