The 19th court session on the case of the Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Ahtem Chiygoz is held today, September 27. The defendant cannot attend it due to discriminatory provisions on the remote participation in the 1st instance process. Though, the hearing is attended by the representatives of the Amnesty International monitoring mission, according to lawyer Nikolai Polozov.
Amnesty International is an international non-governmental organization, which calls attention to the violations of human rights and compliance with international standards. Its objective is to mobilize the public to put pressure on those who violate human rights. Amnesty International was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, as well as the United Nations Prize in the field of human rights.
September 21, the Chiygoz case, a fabricated trial of the Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Ahtem Chiygoz, took an unexpected turn. A victim Vladimir Leontyev, the spouse of the V. Kornevaya, deceased at the rally on February 26, stated that he does not accuse Ahtem Chiygoz in the death of his wife, the lawyer Nikolai Polozov told upon the upon completion of the trial.
The Crimean "authorities" decided to consider the case of the Deputy Chairman of the Crimean Tatar Mejlis Ahtem Chiygoz separate from the so-called "February 26 case."
