The Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine has prepared a video dedicated to Ilmi Umerov, Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, illegally confined in a psychiatric clinic.
“This video is a message to European human rights institutions, the media and Ukrainian diplomats. The video contains basic facts that will help the world learn about Ilmi Umerov, who is ready to stand up for his convictions to the last breath, defending the interests of his people, stressing that the Crimea is Ukraine. The video also shows that Ilmi Umer has fought for the return of Crimean Tatars to their homeland all his life,” the Ministry of Information Policy reports.
The criminal case against the Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Ilmi Umerov was launched at the request of the so-called Public Prosecutor’s Office of Crimea. The prosecution alleges that in March 2016, Umerov being in the territory of Ukraine, publicly called to "violate the territorial integrity of Russia" during his live interview with ATR TV Channel.
August 18, FSB officers - before the entry of the court decision into force - illegally transferred Umerov from the hospital to a psychiatric clinic, taking away vital medication and allowing him to see his family in a strictly specified time.
The health of the Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Ilmi Umerov – transported to the Simferopol mental hospital for a compulsory forensic examination - deteriorated sharply on August 21. He lost consciousness, presumably due to the aggravation of hypertensive crisis.
Nikolai Polozov, the defendant's lawyer, assesses the state of his health as a serious but stable.
