Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people intends to undertake steps to unite Crimean Muslims under the Committee of Muslims of Crimea. Head of Mejlis Refat Chubarov said this at a briefing in Kyiv on November 21.
“We will undertake steps aimed at uniting Crimean Muslims under the Committee of Muslims of Crimea. Crimean Tatars have long established system of self-governance in the religious sphere. We have chosen our Mufti during the times of the first independent Crimean republic in 1917. It was our leader Noman Chelebidjihan, who was shot in Sevastopol in 1917 and thrown into the sea by Bolshevists’ sailors”, said Chubarov.
The politician said that Mejlis intended to continue traditions in order not to allow various religious sects to split the Crimean Tatar community:
“We will continue the traditions. We will not allow the expansions of sects, which often use help of internal and external forces that want to split the Crimean Tatar community. I believe we will not give them such an opportunity”.
