KYIV (QHA) -

The event was organized by the Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for the Affairs of Crimean Tatars, People's Deputy of Ukraine Mustafa Dzhemilev, Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, People's Deputy of Ukraine Refat Chubarov and the Mufti of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Crimea Aider Hadji-Rustamov.

In a comment to QHA correspondent, Mufti of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Ukraine "UMMA" Said Ismagilov noted the importance of joint iftars.

“This Iftar is a great opportunity to speak, show your face, greet guests and get acquainted. Therefore, I believe such events are very useful, especially in the holy month of Ramadan. Such kind things manifesting friendship, unity and respect for each other are very important.”

Among the guests of the event were People's Deputies of Ukraine Georgy Logvinsky, Valery Patskan, Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Hugh Mingarelli, Ambassador of Turkey to Ukraine Yönet Can Tezel, Deputy Chief of the US Diplomatic Mission to Ukraine George Kent, the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine Vaidotas Verba, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Vadim Pristayko, Minister of Justice Pavel Petrenko, First Minister of Information Policy Emine Dzhaparova, Minister of temporarily occupied territories and IDPs Vadim Chernysh and many others.

Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for the Affairs of Crimean Tatars Mustafa Dzhemilev, once again thanked all those who support Ukraine in the international arena at this difficult time:

“In keeping with the Islamic tradition, in the holy month of Ramadan we, Muslims, invite and gather our friends and neighbors in such an atmosphere. We, as representatives of the Mejlis, thought that it would be a good idea to see the ambassadors of Muslim countries, the ambassadors of those countries standing side by side with Ukraine today, and those international organizations that support Ukraine, in our midst this evening. Especially I would like to thank those of you who have remained friends of Ukraine since 2014, when we witnessed Russian aggression in the Crimea.”

Addressing the audience, the Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov emphasized that in recent years the fourth part of the Crimean Umma is spending the holy month of Ramadan outside the Crimea:

“It is unbearably painful to be away from home, away from relatives, away from friends in such a long-awaited month for every Muslim – in Ramadan. But what we perceive as a trial and what is confirmed by your accepting our invitations, the distinguished representatives, the ambassadors, it shows that we rely on a wide circle of our friends at these challenging times. We not only feel the support of your governments and peoples, but also continue our joint efforts in order to de-occupy Crimea, return it to the sovereignty of the Ukrainian state and finally start realizing the old dreams and aspirations of the Crimean Tatar people in building a national-territorial autonomy in a unitary Ukrainian state. We will do everything so that in the nearest Ramadan we could also meet somewhere in Bakhchysarai, Dzhankoy or near Feodosia. We know that we definitely will.”

In turn, representatives of the diplomatic corps highly appreciated this sign of attention.

"I am happy to participate in this Iftar, because it is a strong sign of respect. We all must respect the traditions and religions of other people and confessions. It is fascinating that Ukraine is a country with many different traditions that together create the wealth of Ukrainian culture," Deputy Chief of the US Diplomatic Mission to Ukraine George Kent said.

Reference: Ramazan (or Ramadan) is the month of fasting for Muslims, during which Muslims refuse to eat and drink during the daytime, from dawn to dusk. Fasting begins after the morning Adhan and ends after the evening one. Iftar is a ritual evening meals breaking the day's fast.
