According to the Head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov, such Iftar meetings are very important in the holy month of Ramadan:

The third consecutive year, the Crimean Tatars and the Crimean Muslims, who cannot live today in Crimea due to the Russia’s occupation of the peninsula, hold Iftar in mainland Ukraine and invite representatives of the Islamic countries, European countries, USA and Canada, Refat Chubarov told QHA.

The Mejlis Head went on saying that by accepting the invitation to take part in the Iftar, the representatives of different states do not just demonstrate respect for the traditions of the Islamic world, but also to a certain extent - their attitude to the Crimean Tatar people:

We are very grateful to all those present since they have not only expressed their involvement in the Islamic world, but thereby also help us in the international arena. It seems to me that this evening sets us on a more cohesive work in the future, said Chubarov.

Ramadan - the month of obligatory fasting for Muslims. During this month, Muslims refrain from consuming food and drinking liquids in the daytime. Fasting begins after the morning Azan and ends after the evening one. Iftar -the evening meal when Muslims end their daily Ramadan fast at sunset.
