Mejlis discussed events dedicated to Celebicihan's 97th anniversary

Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people has discussed a plan of events dedicated to 97th anniversary of the death of Noman Celebicihan – first chairman of Crimean People's Republic, organizer of the first Kurultay of Crimean Tatar people, Mufti of Crimea.

According to the head of Mejlis secretariat Dilyaver Akiyev, it is planned to conduct a number of events.

“Traditionally, these are cultural and educational activities, such as literary contest among pupils of national schools as well as mourning rallies in Simferopol and Sevastopol. It is also planned to conduct a requiem in Crimean Engineering and Pedagogical University Feb 23”- he said to QHA correspondent.

Akiyev emphasized that if the initiative of conducting rallies is approved at the next Mejlis session, Mejlis will officially appeal to Simferopol Administration for permission.

It should be noted that all the previous appeals of Mejlis to conduct mass rallies in Simferopol were denied.

Note: Noman Celebicihan (1885–1918) was a Crimean Tatar politician, lawyer, Mufti of Crimean Moslems, and writer. He was the first President of the short-lived independent Crimean People's Republic, established on November 26 (December 9 under the Gregorian Calendar), 1917. He is known for his poem "Ant etkenmen" ("I've pledged"), which have become the Crimean Tatar national anthem. He was killed by Bolshevik forces during the Russian Civil War .His body thrown into the Black Sea.
