November 17, local residents of Simferopol array Borchokrak (Fontany) organized a meeting to discuss the status of school under construction, currently known as the "School of the four presidents,” according to the AVDET publication website.
“The Crimean Tatar language is a state one, and the Crimean Tatars make up the bulk of the population in our neighborhood,” participant of the meeting Izzet Gafarov said.
At the meeting the activists adopted a resolution calling to seek for the status of a "lyceum school" with the Crimean Tatar language for the instruction under the auspices of the Crimean Engineering and Pedagogical University.
Reportedly, in September, the Simferopol "authorities" held a closed meeting to consider the candidates for the post of Headmaster of the school under construction. As a result, none of the Crimean Tatar candidates has been approved. This time, Fontany residents expressed their wishes and opinions for the future of the school principal.
“School Headmaster must be a specialist with the perfect knowledge of the Crimean Tatar language,” participants of the meeting said.
The construction of educational establishment in the Crimean array Borchokrak is almost completed, the school is scheduled to open as early as 2017.
In August 2015, Association of Crimean Tatar Educators "Maarif" addressed Sergey Aksenov to solve the problems of education in the Crimean Tatar language in the territory of the temporarily occupied Crimea. According to the Association, representatives of the indigenous people of the peninsula are allowed to study the de jure State Crimean Tatar language only in clubs and elective courses.
