KYIV (QHA) -

LetMyPeopleGo human rights campaign called on activists to hold a rally of solidarity with the Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Ilmi Umerov on Saturday, September 3.

“We call on all those who are not indifferent to justice, freedom and human dignity, no matter where you are, to express your protest against the despotism of the Russian "authorities" and tell them aloud: STOP KILLING ILMI UMEROV! We ask governments and international institutions to step up pressure on the Kremlin to end the crime being committed at this moment,” the statement says.

As QHA reported earlier, the case against the Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Ilmi Umerov was launched at the request of the so-called Public Prosecutor’s Office of Crimea. The prosecution alleges that in March 2016, Umerov being in the territory of Ukraine, publicly called to "violate the territorial integrity of Russia" during his live interview with ATR TV Channel.

Ilmi Umerov started feeling sick at the hearing in the city of Simferopol on August 11. He was hospitalized with heart attack risk.

August 18, FSB officers - before the entry of the court decision into force - illegally transferred Umerov from the hospital to a psychiatric clinic, taking away vital medication and allowing him to see his family in a strictly specified time.

The health of the Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Ilmi Umerov – transported to the Simferopol mental hospital for a compulsory forensic examination - deteriorated sharply on August 21. He lost consciousness, presumably due to the aggravation of hypertensive crisis.
