KYIV (QHA) -

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko met with the singer Jamala, who won the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest. He congratulated Jamala and noted that her victory is extremely important for Ukraine these days. Kyiv Mayor thanked the singer for the emotions she conveyed to her compatriots, and many viewers in other countries.

“All my friends and acquaintances, when they learned that I am to meet you today, sent their huge congratulations and sincere thanks! So, I deliver them to you from all Kyiv residents,” said Vitali Klitschko.

The Mayor also said he would initiate the making decision on awarding Jamala the title "Honorary Citizen of Kyiv” at the next meeting of the City Council. Vitali Klitschko and Jamala also discussed holding the 2017 Eurovision in Ukraine.

“I rejoice over this victory twice - both as a patriotic spectator and as mayor of the capital. Since, it is difficult to create the better promotion for the country and the city,” Vitali Klitschko said.

The mayor went on to say that Kyiv should be adequately prepared to carry out the Eurovision Song Contest at a high level next year.

“We have heard that some cities expressed the desire to host the 2017 Eurovision. However, I would like to note that the capital is the most adapted to this level of activities,” the Mayor of Kyiv claimed.

Vitali Klitschko said that Kyiv has already had experience in arranging such competition (the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest was held in Kyiv). The capital has the most developed infrastructure, the necessary number of hotels, transportation, choice of venues for the organization and conduct of the competition, as well as flight communication with all European countries.

He also suggested that Jamala would perform the national anthem of Ukraine before the fight of Vladimir Klitschko with Tyson Fury to be held on July 9 at the British Manchester, Kyiv City Administration reports.
