Thousands of Israelis have filed past the body of former prime minister Ariel Sharon ahead of Monday’s state funeral, reports Euronews.
World dignitaries are expected to attend the memorial service which will be held in the Israeli parliament.
A controversial figure, Sharon’s death on Saturday has triggered an out pouring of emotion.
One mourner said: “He did a lot of things for the country and for the peace in the area. He was important for me and I think he was a major political figure in Israel and I wanted to be here.”
After the state memorial service tens of thousands of people are expected to accompany Sharon’s coffin when it is taken to the family’s farm near Sderot in the south of the country for a military ceremony.
He will be buried next to his wife Lili who died in the year 2000.
Ariel Sharon had been in a coma for eight years following a stroke.
