November 17-19, the Head of the World Congress of Ukrainians Eugeniy Cholyi held several important meetings during his visit to the Turkish city of Istanbul, according to the Facebook page of the Consul General of Ukraine in Istanbul.
Cholyi met with the Ukrainian diaspora in Istanbul and discussed several issues on the Ukrainian community activities. The themes of the meeting were the collaboration of Ukrainian organizations abroad, enhancing their further cooperation and the process of integration of the Ukrainian diaspora in Turkey into an organized Ukrainian network around the world.
The Head of the Congress also met with His Holiness Bartholomew I, the Archbishop of Constantinople and Ecumenical Patriarchate. He called on the Patriarch to issue a Tomos on the Kiev Patriarchate autocephalous Ukrainian Orthodox Church, and passed a resolution of the World Congress of Ukrainians meetings for 2016 on this issue.
Moreover, Eugeniy Cholyi met with the members of the Istanbul branch of the Society for culture and mutual aid of the Crimean Tatars headed by Celal İçten to discuss the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms of citizens in the temporarily occupied Crimea.
