KYIV (QHA) -

On the eve of the opening of the World Cup in Russia, activists gathered near the Russian Embassy in Kyiv to join the world action of solidarity with Oleg Sentsov.

The purpose of the action is to draw attention to Sentsov and more than 60 Ukrainian political prisoners who are illegally kept in Russian prisons.

“Today, actions of the Ukrainian communities for the liberation of Oleg Sentsov and other political prisoners are held around the world: from North America, and ending with Australia. We demand of Western politicians to exert pressure on Russia, not to yield to either its blackmail or persuasion. So that everyone understands that those sitting at a negotiation table with the terrorist sate become complicit in those crimes," Sergey Kuzan, representative of Free People organization, explained to QHA correspondent.

June 14 the World Cup begins in Russia which the international community calls to boycott.

“I came today with a demand for the release of Oleg and other political prisoners who are now in Moscovia in jails as political prisoners. I hope this action will draw attention of the media. Unfortunately, we now have no way to influence those who are sitting in the Kremlin," the participant of the action, Oleksandr, told QHA.

It should be reminded that today the Central District Court of the Simferopol, which is controlled by the Kremlin, for the second time postponed delivery of verdict in the so-called "case of February 26".

Earlier QHA reported that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia demanded Russia to immediately release Sentsov.
