Reminder: June, 28 1996 the Verkhovna Rada adopted the first Constitution of the independent Ukrainian State thereby securing the legal framework of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Even in the first years of the Ukraine’s independence several attempts were made to adopt the Constitution as in 1993 President Leonid Kravchuk worked out a draft constitution.
Two years later, in June 1995, an agreement was drawn up and signed to adopt the future Constitution of Ukraine. The Parliamentary Working Committee was headed by an MP for the Verkhovna Rada, Mikhail Sirota.
June, 27 the final version of the document with President’s amendments was submitted for consideration and approval. The MPS were continuously working throughout the day, the discussions did not stop even at night.
As a result, following a clause-by-clause approval, the new Constitution was voted for by 321 MPs the morning of June, 28.
