International human rights organization Amnesty International states that the family of a political prisoner, the human rights defender Emir Usein Kuku is subjected to harassment and intimidation.
Human rights defenders inform that the Kuku family is persecuted in order to intimidate Usein Emir who is currently in jail.
Amnesty International reported on the episode, when the so-called FSB officer tried to intimidate a nine-year Emir Usein’s son Bekir in the school. He assured the child that his father would "rot in jail" if he did not "collaborate."
The self-proclaimed Crimean authorities did not consider the case of the FSB and accused Emir Usein, being in jail, of his failing to protect his son from contacts with strangers.
Human rights defender from Yalta Emir Usein Kuku was arrested following a search of his home in February 2016. He was accused of involvement into the organization "Hizb ut-Tahrir" banned in the Russian Federation. The non-governmental human rights organization Front Line Defenders as well made a demand on release of the political prisoner Amir-Usein Kuku and to stop repression against his family.
Prior to the detention, Emir Usein Kuku conducted the work to protect the victims of harassment collecting information about the missing and detained the Crimean Tatars and Ukrainians in the occupied peninsula. Obviously, it became the reason for his persecution. The occupation authorities intended to charge Kuku with extremism and incitement to ethnic hatred before accusations of terrorism.
