The exhibition of photos by activist has been organized by the community of Christian students. According to the initiators, the topic of Ukrainian activists, particularly Afanasyev, has gradually started going by the wayside. Therefore, the main purpose of the exhibition is to remind the society about political prisoners.
A few friends, who after Russian annexation of Crimea were forced to leave the peninsula, also visited the exhibition, but for objective reasons asked not to take pictures with them and not to publish their names.
The organizers urged visitors to write Gennady letters and send books. For this purpose, they have created a special notebook where every visitor could write words of support for Afanasyev. Then this notebook will be sent to the colony, where Gennadi Afanasyev is kept under guard. It is worth mentioning that through his account in Vkontakte Gennady asked his mother to send him to the colony a Crimean Tatar language tutorial.
Reminder: spring 2014 four Crimean activists were detained by Russian security services on suspicion of terrorism.
Court of the Russian Federation sentenced Gennady Afanasyev to seven years in a penal colony in the city Syktyvkar. Russian human rights organization "Memeorial" recognized Afanasyev a political prisoner.
