In a statement on the occasion of the end of the holy month of Ramadan and the beginning of Eid al-Fitr The Crimean Tatar Association of Culture and Mutual Aid has not only congratulated the entire Islamic world, but also touched upon the issue of human rights violations in Russia-occupied Crimea:
With the most sincere feelings on the Eid al-Fitr holiday we share our troubles and joys, the memory of our values, what we love and what we have lost, solidarity towards our troubles.
The Crimean Tatars, waiting in their Russia-occupied homeland for support and interest on the part of the other Muslims, will celebrate Eid al-Fitr although these days the national institutions are shut down, the leaders expelled, mosques and homes raided, young people kidnapped, tortured and even murdered.
On the Eid al-Fitr holiday we wish all the Turkic and Islamic world peaceful and prosperous days.
The Crimean Tatar Association of Culture and Mutual Aid
Eid al-Fitr is a holiday of breaking of the fast that marks the end of Ramadan, when during the daylight hours Muslims refrained from consuming food and drinking liquids.
This year millions of Muslims around the world celebrate the holiday on July, 5.
Early in the morning, Muslims perform festive Namaz and then partake of a meal. Eid al-Fitr can be celebrated from one to three days.
The Russian-controlled Crimea’s Head Sergey Aksyonov signed a decree "On the non-working public holiday" for the Muslims of Crimea.
Reportedly, about a thousand men, including the Black Sea Fleet servicemen, will gather in the main mosque of the city of Sevastopol to hold a festive prayer in honor of Eid al-Fitr holiday.
