“The Verkhovna Rada has adopted in the first reading a draft law whereby residents of Crimea can apply for new birth and death certificates by submitting the ones issued in occupied Crimea," wrote Sergey Petuhov, Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Justice,“on his Facebook page.

“Bill #3171, making it a lot easier to apply for birth and death certificates in temporarily occupied territories, was approved by 300 MPs,” wrote Petuhov.

Under the law, residents of Crimea entering Ukraine can apply to court in order to have their birth and death certificates issued by occupation authorities exchanged for Ukrainian ones. The court is to verify the fact of death or birth within 24 hours and make a decision which a registration service is to take immediate action on.
