Buying a match box for more than 200 rubles Crimeans get a bottle of alcohol drink for free.
This is the way for Crimean businessmen to evade Russian laws forbidding to sell alcohol without a special license, which the businessmen failed to receive as the transition period in Crimea ended Jan 1, 2015.
According to the law, all Crimean enterprises till Jan 1 should have received a license to sell alcohol. Those who failed to get that license now are trying to evade the law. Thus, there are some shops in Simferopol, which sell matches for 200 rubles, and a “bottle of wine” is included as a premium offer.
Crimea residents treat the issue with humour.
According to preliminary data from the Russian Federal Statistics Service, inflation reached more than 11 percent last year, with food prices increasing by more than 15 percent, fuelled by a weaker ruble which fell more than 40 percent against the U.S. dollar in 2014.
