On February 1, 2016, a mourning event dedicated to the 45th anniversary of the tragic death of Amet-Khan Sultan, twice Hero of the Soviet Union, Honored Test Pilot of the USSR, was held in Simferopol. The rally took place at the memorial plaque on the square named after the legendary pilot.
Despite the inclement weather, more than fifty people came to honor the memory of the glorious son of the nation, including members of non-governmental organizations, parliamentarians, writers, veterans of the national movement, students and teachers.
The mourning rally began with a public prayer held by Raim Gafarov, a representative of the Spiritual Board of Muslims in Crimea.
“Today we mark the mourning date of the death of a brave man, who risked his live to bring peace for us. And Crimeans will never forget his feat,” said Camille Ametov, Chairman of the ‘Initiative’ Crimean Center of Social and Cultural Development NGO.
Uryane Kenzhikaeva, Merited Artist of Crimea, rendered a song composition dedicated to Sultan Amet-Khan. At the end of the rally the participants laid flowers at the memorial plaque.
A memorable event and ceremony of laying flowers to the bust of the hero has also been held at the Museum of Twice Hero of the Soviet Union Sultan Amet-Khan in Alupka today.
