STRASBOURG (QHA) -

For the first time the Crimean Tatar flag was raised on the territory of the Ukraine's Permanent Representation to the European Council in Strasbourg, the Ukraine’s Presidential Commissioner on the Affairs of the Crimean Tatar People Mustafa Dzhemilev reported on Facebook.

- Strasbourg is one of the most important European political centers. As of now, the Crimean Tatar national flag will be permanently unfurling near the Ukrainian flag on the Ukrainian diplomatic institution thereby reminding about the need to restore the rights of the Crimean Tatar people, to de-occupy Crimea and return the peninsula under Ukraine’s control, reads the message.

The Crimean Tatar flag was solemnly raised on the territory of the Ukraine's Permanent Representation to Strasbourg by the leader of the Crimean Tatars, Ukraine’s Presidential Commissioner on the Affairs of the Crimean Tatar People, MP for the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Mustafa Dzhemilev.

The flag-raising ceremony was attended by the Ukrainian Parliamentary Delegation to PACE, the diplomatic corps and invited guests.

The Day of the Crimean Tatar flag, which is traditionally celebrated on June 26 symbolizes the rebirth of the people in their homeland. This day in 1992 the 2nd Kurultai (Congress) of the Crimean Tatar People started its work in the city of Simferopol that is 74 years after the 1st Kurultai, which was held in 1918 in the city of Bakhchisarai.
