December 11, under decision of the Vinnitsa City Court, the 30-year-old Crimean Tatar Ridvan Abilev was sentenced to 7 years in prison for organizing the illegal crossing of the border with Ukraine. Reportedly, Abilev along with his accomplice from the Lviv region helped the illegal migrants to move to Ukraine, according to the report of the local edition.
Earlier, in the period from 2014 to 2015, Ridvan Abilev defended Ukraine as part of the voluntary association "Crimea", but did not get the status of combatant, since the battalion was disbanded.
Lawyer Vladimir Saushkin said that the only evidence in the case is the audio record of a poor quality.
“The only argument the prosecution has is the audio recording of the testimony by one of those whom Ridvan allegedly transported across the border,” the lawyer said.
Saushkin plans to appeal against sentence to the Court of Appeal in Vinnitsa region. He is also surprised that the SBU is involved in the case, because such a category of offenses refers to the powers of the National Police.
Earlier, the court of Vinnytsia released Abilev on bail of 121 thousand UAH, but then again detained for another title.
