The occupation authorities of Crimea say that more than 50,000 people gathered to mark Hidrellez, Zaur Smirnov, head of the “State Committee for Interethnic Relations and Deported Citizens of the Republic of Crimea,” wrote on his Facebook page.
“The holiday has been successful! A lot of fun and smiles. One cannot retell everything. So, like this, I, my family and 50 thousand of my compatriots as well our guests, Crimeans, celebrated Hidrellez,” Smirnov reported cheerfully.
However, the video and photos from the venue of the festival show that a little over 1,000 people, who were forced against signed receipt, came to celebrate Hidrellez organized by the occupants.
It was reported earlier that the self-proclaimed Crimean authorities decided to bring by force the Crimean Tatars to celebrate Hidrellez, which is considered to be the Turkic peoples’ biggest holidays of the year. The corresponding order was made public on the Internet.
Refat Chubarov, Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, commented on holding the Hidrellez by the puppet authorities saying that "the aims of the invaders and handful of their toadies are obvious – to create a glamorous TV picture showing singing/dancing and chewing people… and then tell the world what a wonderful life the Crimean Tatars have in Crimea.”
Reference. Hidrellez is a National Day of the Crimean Tatars, which has its roots in pagan times. It is celebrated as the day on which Prophets Khidr and Ilyas met on the earth. Its rituals also feature an ancient agricultural tradition. Hidrellez is considered to be the Turkic peoples’ biggest holidays of the year which celebration lasted three days in 19th century.
