Simferopol (QHA) - International indigenous peoples day approved by UN General Assembly will be celebrated on August 9, in Kızıl Koba complex of Perevalnoye in Simferopol district, claimed the head of Foundation for Research and Support of Indigenous Peoples of Crimea Nadir Bekirov in his interview to QHA.
Bekirov believes all indigenous peoples have unique cultures that are worth being presented at the holiday, thus each participating organization has an opportunity for self-presentation. The organizers are planning costume walk and the concert.
“It’s a kind of tradition to celebrate this day in Crimea, despite the fact that Ukrainian government keeps on ignoring accepting the status and rights of indigenous people”, claimed Bekirov.
“This international event has become an effective platform to discuss and develop necessary strategy of interaction between representatives of indigenous people of the Eurasian region,” noted Bekirov.
“It is quite difficult for non-government organizations to represent interests of indigenous people at international level individually. For this reason creation of “Eurasia indigenous peoples Assembly” has been discussed. This issue will be the key issue discussed in the framework of the program of celebration of World indigenous peoples day in Crimea this year,” added Bekirov.
