The Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov said that a number of events will be held in December in honor of the 100th anniversary of the First Qurultay, which took place on November 26 (December 9th in a new style) in 1917. He made a corresponding statement at a press conference on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the First Qurultay, a National Congress of the Crimean Tatar people.

According to QHA correspondent, Refat Chubarov told about several events not only in Ukraine but also abroad.

“The main events that will be held to this date are: December 6, at 15.00, a Verkhovna Rada session commemorating the centenary of the Qurultay, where diplomats and activists are invited, will be visited by a large group of our compatriots from Crimea, representatives of the Crimean Tatar diaspora, the Mufti of Poland and Lithuania. After that, diplomats and civilian activists will arrive on behalf of the Mejlis. Our compatriots will have the opportunity to talk to each other. December 7, a scientific conference "The Century of Qurultay: The Past, Present, Future" will be held at the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. It is to gather scholars who study this date. On December 12-13, a relevant event will take place in Romania, namely a meeting of Crimean Tatar non-governmental organizations as well as a solemn event. Turkey will also host some events. This is all that we could do in the conditions of the occupied Crimea.”

The First Deputy Minister of information policy of Ukraine Emine Dzhaparova in turn told about the activities planned in Kyiv.

“In Kyiv, we will open the boards providing information about Qurultay and will carry out educational activities to tell the Ukrainians about this date. We also created a brochure to be distributed at all events to the 100th anniversary, and will tell the story of the creation and stages of development of the First Qurultay. Moreover, we made a video that is a social advertisement. We will give it to television channels for broadcasting.”

Earlier, in the capital’s Museum of Money of the National Bank of Ukraine a presentation of a commemorative coin in honor of the 100th anniversary of the First Qurultay was held. Director General of the İsmail Gasprinskiy Geostrategy Institute Nariman Ustaev noted that the idea of creating a commemorative coin was born in 2016.

QHA
