During the lunch break of the court session on the case of the Deputy Chairman of the Crimean Tatar Mejlis Ahtem Chiygoz, a new hearing - unexpectedly appointed by judges in the morning - is being held.
Considering the complaint against the extension of Ahtem Chiygoz’s detention, the appellate court dismissed the request to postpone the hearing, as the parties were not aware of the hearing, according to the lawyer Nikolai Polozov.
In addition, the judge denied the defense’s right to get acquainted with the materials on the extension of detention.
In this regard, Ahtem Chiygoz challenged the entire panel of judges and the prosecutor. However, as expected, not a single request was satisfied.
Despite the flagrant violations, the court decided to leave Chiygoz in custody.
Previously, the so-called Court of Crimea made a decision to extend the detention of the Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Ahtem Chiygoz until January 8, 2017.
Ahtem Chiygoz cannot attend the hearings on his case due to the discriminatory rules on the defendant’s remote participation in the first instance trials.
September 21, the "Chiygoz case" - a trumped-up trial of the Mejlis Deputy Chairman Ahtem Chiygoz - took another twist following the evidence given by Vladimir Leontiev, the spouse of V.D. Koreneva, deceased at the rally on February 26, 2014. He said he does not blame Ahtem Chiygoz for the death of his wife.
The Crimean "authorities" decided to consider the case of the Deputy Chairman of the Crimean Tatar Mejlis Ahtem Chiygoz separate from the so-called "February 26 case."
